Do you have a lot of stuff piling up in your home? So much stuff that even a thorough spring cleaning won’t alleviate the problem? Sometimes we keep things that we don’t need like clothes, books, and other trinkets. These might have some sentimental value to you but eventually you can find a way to throw them away or donate them to charity. But other times, space is short because your home is just filled to the brim with things that you still need. In cases like this, you need somewhere else to put all of your stuff. It sounds like you need a storage unit.

Storage units are great for storing away things that you don’t need today, but definitely can’t get rid of. For instance, if you’re an outdoor sports enthusiast with a one-bedroom apartment, it’s just not practical to keep your skis, mountain bike, and camping equipment all jammed into your closet or under your bed. You can unclutter your home by moving some of that stuff to a storage unit so you can access it when you need to. Here are a few other reasons to consider getting a storage unit.

  1. Availability. You can access your things when you need to use them. It’s not like your stuff is locked away forever and you can only get to it once or twice a year. You can access your items at your convenience. Think of having a storage unit as an extra room that’s just across town.
  2. Great for moving. If you are moving out of one home and moving into another, you might find that it’s difficult to coordinate the move so that you can simply take your furniture and other belongings from one house and just put them into the new one. Often, the closing dates are different, or there’s just not enough time in the day to deal with all of the paperwork and move in. A short-term storage unit is a great stopgap that gives you somewhere to store your belongings during that time.
  3. Great for new couples and roommates. If you’re moving in with a significant other or even just a roommate, you might find that you have two home’s worth of stuff that needs to fit into one house. A storage unit allows you to store your extra furniture until you eventually find a bigger place.
  4. Security. You can rest assured that your things are safe when they’re in a storage unit. Storage facilities have excellent security and surveillance to make sure that only authorized people are allowed access to the right storage units.
  5. Climate-controlled storage. There’s no need to worry about your files, photos, and other delicate items becoming musty or moldy when you have a climate-controlled storage unit. You can rest assured that your belongings are just as safe in the storage unit as they would be in your home, and probably safer than if they were in a box in the basement.
