New York City is home to hundreds of public high schools, and still more private schools. Every year, U.S. News and World Report ranks the best High Schools all over the country. In 2014, the magazine reviewed hundreds of NYC schools in the New York Public School System. Over 50 of them were awarded their gold medal statewide, but these top 10 public schools are the best of the best in NYC.

10. Stuyvesant High School.Ranked 12th overall in New York State, Stuyvesant High School is given a STEM rank of 9, meaning the school focuses on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, areas in which students may thrive in future careers.

9. Brooklyn Technical High School.Over 99% of the students at this high school in Brooklyn participate in the Advanced Placement (AP) testing program to earn college credits while they’re still in high school. The school ranks 60th nationwide and 10th in New York State.

8. Queens High School for the Sciences at York College.The AP participation rate at Queens High School for the Sciences at York College is over 92%. The total minority enrollment is 93%. The school’s students were 100% proficient in Math and English.

7. Manhattan Bridges High School. This school has a pretty evenly matched student population at 51% male and 49% female. The school is ranked 51st nationally and has 34 full-time teachers for its 541 students.

6. Staten Island Technical High School.This school is ranked 6th overall in the state and boasts a college readiness index of 83. Over 94% of the students here participate in the AP testing program.

5. Townsend Harris High School.The AP participation rate here is 100%. The school is 29% male and 71% female and has a minority enrollment of 75%. Townsend Harris has a college readiness index of 91.1.

4. High School for Dual Language and Asian Studies. As the name suggests, the school’s goal is to educate students to be proficient in two languages: Chinese and English. Students can also earn college credits and advanced placement in science and language courses.

3. Brooklyn Latin School.With a college readiness index of 93.9 and the opportunity for students to take International Baccalaureate course work and exams, this school is focused on getting its students ready for the next step. The school is ranked as 35th nationwide.

2. The Bronx High School of Science. Students in this school have a 100% proficiency rating in both math and English. The college readiness index is 94.1 and 98% of the students participate in the AP testing program. The Bronx High School of Science has 134 full-time teachers for its 3,013 students.

1. The High School of American Studies (HSAS) at Lehman College. U.S. News ranks this school specializing in American History as the top school in New York City and the 32nd best school across the country. The school has a small enrollment of only 377 students with 24 full-time teachers, and a college readiness index of 95.7.
